BBC Drama featuring Harry Potter and Broadchurch stars to film in Wakefield

An adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The ABC Murders, to be shown on the BBC, will film in St John’s Square later this month.

The three-part drama will feature Dangerous Liaisons’ John Malkovich as Hercule Poirot and Harry Potter star Rupert Grint as Inspector Chrome.

Other cast members will include Andrew Buchan, best known for his work on Broadchurch, Eamon Farren from Twin Peaks and Game of Thrones actor Tara Fitzgerald.

Chris Hordley, Creative England’s production liaison manager in Yorkshire and the East Midlands, said: “We’re really excited that it’s filming in Yorkshire. We’re really happy that there will be some filming in Wakefield this summer.”

Wakefield has provided the backdrop to many dramas over the years and in 2014 St John’s Square was used as a set for the BBC mini-series Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.

Other shows filmed in the city include ITV detective show A Touch of Frost, The New Statesman and BBC crime drama Five Day.

The ABC Murders was published in 1936 and sees detective Hercule Poirot take on the case of a serial killer known only as ABC.

The one-off drama is a Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited drama for BBC One, and will be directed by Alex Gabassi.

It was previously adapted for TV in 1992 during the fourth season of ITV’s Agatha Christie’s Poirot, and again for BBC Radio in 2008.
