Biggest-ever headliners launch Long Division tomorrow

The Cribs will make their first public performance since 2007 tomorrow, when they kick-off the fourth annual Long Division music festival.

They will be one of the first bands to perform at the recently refurbished Unity Hall when they take to the stage there tonight.

The Netherton-born brothers, twins Gary and Ryan Jarman, and younger sibling Ross, will also perform an under 18s matinee and family gig.

Bassist Gary said: “The first and only time we ever went to Unity Hall was around Christmas ‘94 for a show featuring our guitar teacher’s band, Skint.

“Retarded Fish were also on the bill. We went upstairs, and were excited to see our first gig - until we got kicked out for being underage.

“That is why we are psyched to be playing an all-ages ‘underage’ matinee show there too - to make sure that no-one else has that feeling of rejection!”

This year’s Long Division line-up has more bands and venues than ever before, with more than 80 local performers and touring artists playing at Saturday’s day-long music event.

Headliners include Slow Club, Gruff Rhys, I Like Trains. The Wedding Present, Clown and Islet. Saturday’s line-up also features an under 18s stage at The Orangery.

A free fringe festival will run throughout Sunday with 21 arts and cultural events and workshops across the city.

Higlights include a live album recording, discussion panels with industry experts about how to move forward in a career in music and variety performances.
