Biker killed in crash near Featherstone

A motorcyclist was killed when the machine he was riding was involved in collision with a car at Ackton near Featherstone last night.

West Yorkshire Police said the collision happened on Common Side Lane at Ackton just after 7pm yesterday (Wednesday May 4).

Police said a back Vauxhall Insignia car travelling towards Featherstone and a red MV Agusta Motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction collided on the road.

Emergency services attended including fire and ambulance.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 57-year-old man from the Bradford area, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the car was treated at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.

Sergeant Ann Drury of West Yorkshire Police’s major collision enquiry team, said: “Investigations are ongoing into this tragic accident in Pontefract and we are appealing for witnesses.

“I would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or saw either of these vehicles on this road before the collision occurred.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 3815 Sapsford at the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101 quoting reference 1446 of 4 May.”
