Boy, 6, airlifted to hospital after crash

A six-year-old boy suffered head injuries after he was hit by a car.

The boy was hurt during a collision with the vehicle close to Sandal Post Office, on Barnsley Road, at around 8.36am today (Tuesday).

Police and the air ambulance were called to the scene and the boy was taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said his injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Barnsley Road was closed after the incident but reopened at 10.04am.
