Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s is to take over the B&Q store in Glass Houghton, creating 300 jobs.

The Express understands plans to transform the DIY store into a supermarket could be submitted to Wakefield Council by the end of the year.

The proposed development is expected to create 300 full and part time vacancies on the Aspen Way site, and 70 B&Q staff will be offered an interview to work at the new store.

The Junction 32 shop is currently only allowed to sell DIY products but supermarket bosses hope planning chiefs will lift the restriction.

Plans for the 72,000 square foot site could also include a petrol station.
