Building to be demolished over safety fears

A derelict building next to Snapethorpe Primary School could be demolished over health and safety concerns.

The building sits adjacent to the school on St George’s Road in Lupset and has been empty since 2014.

A demolition application has been submitted to Wakefield Council’s planning department.

It reads: “In the last twelve months the building has been regularly targeted by vandals and trespassers.

“Due to the former, the derelict building is deteriorating and is becoming a health and safety risk.

“The local authority is using limited financial resources to continually secure the building and provide security patrols.”

The site would be fully enclosed, separating it from the primary school and surrounding residential areas before demolition took place.

If approved, work is expected to be carried out in Autumn.
