Bus lane opens on one of city's busiest roads

A new section of a bus lane has opened on one of the busiest roads in Wakefield to make it easier for people to get into the city centre.

Wakefield Council has extended the bus lane on Dewsbury Road as part of a road improvement scheme.

Changes have also been made to traffic lights and a junction to make the road more efficient for all road users.

A new pedestrian crossing and new parking bays have also been created.

Coun Matthew Morley, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways at Wakefield Council, said: “I am pleased that we’ve made these changes which aim to improve both bus and car journeys into the city centre on one of our most popular routes.”

The bus lane is open from 7am to 7pm each day and is for the use of buses, hackney carriages, motorcyclists and cyclists.
