Castleford Tigers fans earned praise for their outstanding support after the Tigers sold out their allocation of tickets for last Sunday’s Super League game between the two sides.
The Tigers took a following of around 1,500 supporters to the KC Lightstream Stadium to officially become the best supported side to visit the ground in recent years, topping the previous high set by Leeds Rhinos on the opening weekend of the 2014 competition.
Sunday’s crowd was also a new record for matches between the two clubs in the Super League era.
Castleford Tigers chief executive Steve Gill was delighted by the fans’ support.
He said: “Our players experienced their biggest away following over at Hull KR this weekend for a long while. We had sold out of our allocation of tickets by Wednesday.
“Ticket sales for our opening home game v Wakefield Wildcats have been moving really quickly and we urge our supporters to get their tickets early to guarantee entrance on Sunday.
“Last season’s game attracted over 10,000 supporters and early ticket sales are showing we could beat that attendance.”
