Teenager Jack McDermott is celebrating after completing an air cadets leadership course.
The 16-year-old Castleford air cadet passed the senior non-commissioned officer course which means he will now be able to run activities for younger members of the squadron.
Jack, who goes to Castleford Academy, is hoping to become a sergeant.
Flt Lt Vicky Williamson, officer commanding at Castleford Air Cadets, said: “The course Jack did is both informative and challenging.
“He put in a tremendous amount of effort over the weekend and has come on leaps and bounds.”
During the course, Jack took part in a number of sessions where he learned communication skills and team management.
He then took a leadership assessment at the end of the course.
Flt Lt Williamson added: “Keeping up a long tradition at Castleford, Jack excelled and he was among the best on the course.
“We look forward to him returning to the unit and continuing his development.”
Jack will now help train younger cadets who are members of the group.
