CASTLEFORD Male Voice Choir will make its television debut on the BBC’s The One Show this evening (Tuesday March 6).

The choir’s 35 members recorded a song about Yorkshire’s mining industry and were interviewed about their mining experiences last year for the report, which will be broadcast on the popular BBC 1 magazine programme starting at 7pm.

Brian Dunderdale, the choir’s secretary, said: “We are all very excited to the see the show as it was recorded such a long time ago and we didn’t know when it was going to be shown.

“We really enjoyed doing the recording and the song Take Me Home, which is a very powerful piece.

“The report will focus on the decline of the Yorkshire coalfields and a few of our members who used to work in the mines spoke about their memories.

“It is great publicity for our choir and hopefully it will encourage people to join us.”

The choir – founded in 1926 – meets at Trinity Methodist Church Hall, on Powell Street, Castleford, on Fridays at 7.30pm. For more information contact Mr Dunderdale at or call him on 01977 702350.
