Staff were forced to close the pool after being left thigh deep in water after heavy rainfall hit the area on Friday, August 8.

The contaminated floodwater had to be pumped out of the building, meaning the facility was closed for more than a week.

The flooding affected the pool’s plant room, where critical operating equipment is kept (pictured), as well as the pool itself. The pool’s water has been changed and has been independently tested to make sure it is safe to swim in.

Coun Les Shaw, the council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “Flood water doesn’t discriminate and, like many people across the district, Castleford Swimming Pool was affected.

“Due to the amazing efforts and dedication of staff we’ve been able to get it open again pretty quickly and are looking forward to welcoming people back to the various swimming sessions on offer this week.”
