Rugby fans can etch their heroes’ names in history as part of a new scheme in Castleford town centre.

Wakefield Council is installing 20 black and amber Castleford Tigers-themed planters which will be dotted around Sagar Street and Carlton Street.

And they are asking people to have their say by naming them after Tigers players past and present.

Coun Denise Jeffery, cabinet member for economic growth and skills, said: “This is a great initiative which encourages fans to get involved in the planting scheme which will further enhance the town centre.

“There are so many great Tigers rugby league players to consider both from previous years and current players and I’m sure fans will be spoilt for choice.”

The planters will contain shrubs and be placed as part of the council’s improvement scheme in the town centre.

Other improvements include new lighting and a footpath to link to the riverside, Millennium footbridge and the Queen’s Mill.

People can vote for their favourite players’ name to appear on the planters. Each person may vote for five different players, using an online form or by visiting the Tigers Den club shop in Carlton Lanes shopping centre.

Two lucky voters will be invited to the official unveiling of the new planters with current Tigers stars later this year. To vote visit www. and search ‘Cas Tigers top 20’ by August 14.
