Castleford Tigers reveal new stadium plans

Castleford Tigers are set to get a new stadium as part of a planned £135m development in Glass Houghton.

The proposed scheme, by the Lateral Property Group, would include a food store, petrol station, high-quality shops, the stadium and a country park. It would create up to 2,000 new jobs plus hundreds more during the construction phase.

The development, off M62 junction 32, would be on land between Stainburn Avenue and Spittal Hardwick Lane on the opposite side of the junction leading into Xscape. The proposals also involve significant highway improvements, with a new junction off Park Road.

The retail aspect of the scheme would pay for the stadium, which would have a capacity of 10,000 and provide administration, changing facilities, restaurants and hospitality areas, with both seating and standing terraces.

It would allow the club to raise non-matchday income by offering conference facilities, weddings, functions and training rooms. Freehold ownership of the stadium would be transferred to the club once the development is complete.
