Chaos as snow brings roads to a standstill

Traffic is grinding to a halt on many of Wakefield's roads as the snow show no sign of easing up.

Reports are coming in of an accident on Market Street in Normaton due to the treacherous conditions, which is causing further traffic problems.

A yellow warning for snow remains in place and people are being urged not to make unnecessary journeys.

There are numerous roads that are causing problems with traffic either at a standstill or at crawling pace, including:

* The A638 at Crofton.

* Westgate and Horbury Road in Wakefield city centre.

* The A650 at Snow Hill.

* The A650 at Carr Gate

* The A61 Leeds Road at Newton Hill

* Barnsley Road, Newmillerdam.

* M62 westbound between J30 and J29 at Lofthouse.
