BODY builders from around the district will be flexing their muscles with a charity show in Pontefract to raise enough cash to buy a guide dog puppy.
Personal trainer Paul Summers, 48, is organising the event at Pontefract Labour Club in Chequerfield on Sunday September 23 and hopes to raise £5,000 for Guide Dogs for the Blind – enough to buy a puppy for the charity.
Paul said he was inspired by friend Graham Owen, who began losing his sight due to a rare degenerative disorder in 2001 and has had guide dog Gunner since 2007.
Paul said: “I got to know Graham as we both train at Fitness Base in Pontefract, he did a sponsored row for Guide Dogs for the Blind and wanted to do something else to raise money, so I said why don’t we do a body building show?”
The show will be judged by an audience clapometer, and there will also be raffles and a strongman log lift for members of the audience, while Castleford firefighter Neil Smithers, who broke his back two years ago, will make a guest appearance.
The event takes place from noon to 4pm, tickets cost £3 in advance and £4.50 on the door, available from the Labour Club or from Paul on 07855 581374.
