Committed fundraiser Ellie Wood took to the streets of York as part of her quest to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Miss Wood, together with friends Rachael Parkin and Susie Webb, are hoping to raise £3,000 for Cancer Research by holding fundraising events throughout the year.

The trio – who have called themselves the Yorkshire Girls – have also held concerts, other charity runs and cake sales.

Miss Wood helped increase the total by running the York 10K with her mum Melissa Lane on Sunday.

Miss Wood, 22, said: “It was a brilliant day but it was very hard.

“I’ve never done anything like it before but I trained for about six weeks for the event and we managed to run all the way without stopping.”

The mother and daughter duo raised more than £400 for the charity by doing the run.

Now the Yorkshire Girls are preparing for their final fundraising event of the year.

They will hold a charity ball on Saturday, November 29.

The event, at Featherstone Rovers Big Fellas Stadium, will be hosted by 5TownsFM DJ Jasmin Dean.

There will also be a charity auction, live music from the band Rough Diamond and a magic show by Craig Roe.

Tickets for the ball cost £25 including a three-course meal.
