Children are being reminded to stay safe during the summer holidays and be aware of the dangers of electricity.
Northern Powergrid, the electricity distributor for Yorkshire, has issued the warning, saying youngsters must resist any temptation to trespass in substations, climb pylons or play near overhead power cables.
Paul Norton, head of safety, said: “We all remember the excitement of the long summer, but it’s vital youngsters realise that interfering accidentally or otherwise, with any part of the electricity network can prove fatal.
“Every year people die by touching cables or equipment they didn’t realise were live.
“We appeal to all parents and guardians to advise their children of the dangers.”
