Children's home approved despite several objections

Residents' objections were not enough to prevent a home for troubled youngsters being given the go-ahead.

The successful application from Keir Lock Children’s homes Ltd was to convert the property at 21 Chapel Street in Knottingley into the home to accommodate up to three children and a member of staff.

But eight letters of objections were sent to Wakefield Council’s planning department.

One read: “Knottingley suffers from arson, broken windows and damage to school. We have nuisance and threatening behaviour from kids on bikes, drugs and the removal of grates.

“Having more children up to 18 years with emotional and behavioural difficulties living so close really fills me with fear.”

Another wrote: “We have lost our swimming baths, sports centre and library, there is no cinema or youth clubs and so to place a home for children with behavioural and emotional problems is totally inappropriate.”
