The success of high-flying Castleford Tigers will be celebrated with a civic reception by the district council.
It was announced by Wakefield Council after Castleford won the League Leaders Shield for the first time in the club’s 91-year history.
The Tigers, who play home games at Wheldon Road, are hoping to secure a place in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on October 7.
The fixture will decide who wins the 2017 championship.
Praising the club, Wakefield Council leader Peter Box said: “The council is very proud of all its rugby teams and delighted that we are home to such great sporting talent.
“It has been a fantastic season for Castleford Tigers which saw them lift the League Leaders Shield for the first time in their history and we would like to celebrate their success with a civic reception.
“I have already spoken to the club who have said they would be honoured to attend so we are now in the process of setting up the event, which is likely to be held shortly after the RFL Grand Final.”
