The branch has donated a total of £8,671.03 - raised through its membership scheme - to the 1st Ackworth Boys Brigade, Low Ackworth Community Association and Star Bereavement, Pontefract.

The scheme sees Co-op members contributing 1 per cent of their spending at the store to help different community groups each year.

The Boys Brigade received £2,858.76 towards the purchase of new expedition equipment and to attract new members, while the community association was given £2,884.24 to carry out much needed repairs to the roof and for redecorating. Star Bereavement received £2,928.03 to fund its continuing work providing counselling and support for children and young people dealing with bereavement.

Manager Lee Bayley said: “The Co-operative is once again delighted to continue its support for local charities and groups through the use of our membership card.”

The nominated charities for next year are Ackworth Riding for the Disabled and Ackworth Community Library.
