Festival organiser and Sandal U12s head coach Adam Mounsey said: “We are expecting 1,000 children. Over the years Sandal has built up a reputation as being a very good festival.

People want to come year after year and more and more teams are interested. We’ve been inundated this year.”

The event, which is a big fundraiser for the club, will also feature a barbecue with 1,000 pork sausages and 1,000 steak burgers kindly donated by Blacker Hall Farm Shop, of Branch Road, Calder Grove, Wakefield.

Mr Mounsey added: “The money we make from the barbecue makes up a big portion of the total funds on the day. Without them [Blacker Hall} it wouldn’t be the success that it is.”
