A TIRELESS church warden has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the Brotherton and Byram communities.
Colin Dean (pictured above with wife Betty), was given the prestigious honour for years of dedication to the villages.
Mr Dean, 74, of Old Great North Road, has racked up 40 years as church warden at St Edward’s Church in Brotherton, run a local Darby and Joan club for 50 years, holds a regular luncheon club to raise money for the church, and is chairman of the Brotherton and Byram pantomime group which he set up 25 years ago.
He said: “I was a bit shocked when I found out, but I’m chuffed to bits. I’m very honoured.”
The retired milkman, who admits he will probably “never stop” devoting his time to the community, also turned his house into a small residential home for the elderly 15 years ago.
