Wakefield Council has replaced all the toys and teddies at South Elmsall library after thieves damaged and stole some of them last week.

Wakefield Council has provided the toys, with help from Tesco and donations from the community, after play equipment was trashed during a break-in.

Thieves smashed through a window near the children’s play area of the library over the weekend of October 14 and 15, covering the toys in glass.

They stole a large number of the toys and teddies and destroyed them outside the premises.

Coun Les Shaw, cabinet Member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to replace the toys so quickly. The children’s library is now complete again with so many toys and books for children in the area to enjoy.

“The support we have been shown from local people is fantastic. I would like to thank everyone who has donated toys. It shows how valued the library is and what a caring community South Elmsall is.”

Anyone with any information about the break-in should contact police on 101.
