Concrete firmsupports appeal

Last week we announced how the annual appeal by the Community Awareness Programme (CAP), Chantry Rotary Club and the Wakefield Express had won the backing of Minster Law. It followed on from promised support by The Ridings and the 13th Girl Guide Troop in Wakefield.

Now Camel Pre-Cast Concrete, of Kinsley, has offered the appeal the use of their warehouse space for the storage of completed hampers.

Last year there was severe pressure on space but volunteers still managed to pack well over 800. This year the target is more than 1,000 hampers. The available space at the CAP centre in Market Street, Wakefield for completed hampers would not be enough.

But Mark Jeffries, managing director at Camel, has stepped in and kindly offered the use of a section of his premises.

Rotarian Mr Jeffries said: This is such a worthwhile project, that we want to be involved to help the appeal both reach its target and ensure that the work done by the Rotary Club volunteers and the staff from CAP is made as easy as possible.”

He will also be helping the distribution by providing some transport and helpers. Both his son and daughter, who attend Ackworth School, and their friends have helped in the past and have offered to help again this year.

Although food and hampers are starting to roll in, and in some volume, there is only one week to go for the collection of food and hampers. The flow of supplies is urgent now and people are asked to dig deep and get those donations to CAP as soon as they can.
