Construction workers at Ferrybridge Power Station walk out on strike over toilet facilities

Members of the Unite union are holding an unballoted strike as they claim up to 600 workers on the site have to share eight toilets and they even have to bring their own toilet paper to work.

A spokesman for power station operators, SSE, said: “There is no industrial action at SSE’s Ferrybridge Power Station.

“Ferrybridge Multi-Fuel facility is currently under construction nearby. Any contractor issues would be a matter for the principal contractor - Hitachi Zosen Inova.”

A spokesman for Hitachi Zosen Inova said: “Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) is the main contractor for the Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 Plant.

“HZI are aware of concerns raised by the workforce regarding welfare facilities. We are working with representatives from the workforce to resolve the issues raised.”
