Wakefield’s full council meets every six weeks to discuss and decide on important issues in the district. The meetings are open to the public and later start times are being trialled to help make it easier for people to attend.

Coun Peter Box, Leader of Wakefield Council, said: “We want to give more people the opportunity to see local democracy in action. By starting some meetings at a later time we hope that more people will have the opportunity to attend.

“We want as many residents as possible to come along and hear our full council debates in action.

“Many of our councillors are also employed and have work commitments. We hope by changing the time it will support more of them to be able to manage their work obligations and council duties.

“We are also continuing to use technology to live stream our Council meetings so that residents can tune in online to hear what their councillors are saying, either live or at a more convenient time to suit them.”

The council meetings are broadcast live at www.wakefield.gov.uk/livestream The recordings will be available to watch again until the next meeting takes place.
