Crime chief says thanks as he moves to new role

Former Castleford police chief Dave Bugg has thanked people in the town for their support as he moves on to a new role with the force.

Mr Bugg worked as inspector of Castleford neighbourhood police team (NPT) for six years.

He was also in charge of Normanton and Featherstone NPT for around 18 months.

He said: “Looking back on my time in Castleford, the one part of it that stands out is the people.

“Castleford is quite a unique place - I don’t think there’s anywhere else like it.

People really take a responsibility for their area and there is a lot of people that want to make the town a better place.

“There are some brilliant people who live and work in Castleford and I always made it my priority to look after them.”

Mr Bugg worked with councillors and Pontefract and Castleford MP Yvette Cooper during his time with the NPT.

He said: “Working together with community leaders is really important because lots of the issues that are handled come from them.

“I had a good relationship with the councillors and Ms Cooper which helped identify issues before they became too serious.”

Mr Bugg has now moved into a new role overseeing a restructure of NPTs across the Wakefield district.

He said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time as an inspector in Castleford as well as Normanton and Featherstone.

“I made the patches my own and took it quite personal whenever anything big happened.”

Insp Geoff Carter, who oversees the Pontefract and Knottingley and South East NPT, will add Castleford and Normanton and Featherstone to his responsibilities.

Mr Bugg thanked everyone in the area for their support over the years.
