95-year-old deaf woman’s house burgled by con artist

A deaf and partially sighted 95-year-old woman had her house burgled by a con artist.

The man got into her home in Arncliffe Road, Eastmoor, after claiming he worked for a charity.

He demanded the victim hand over £300 for a number of low value household items she had not ordered.

It happened between 10am and 10.15am on Thursday, December 18 last year.

Police have now released CCTV footage of a car and a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

Det Con Gary Wetherill said: “It has understandably left the victim feeling upset and distressed.

“I am appealing to people to look at the CCTV images of the man and what is a purple or blue coloured small people carrier type vehicle.

“If you recognise either the car or the man I would like to hear from you.

“I would also like anyone living locally, who may have been approached to buy goods under similar circumstances, to get in touch.”
