Police reported that a vehicle had been seen driving around in Outwood on Friday night aiming the lit fireworks at buildings, including a nursing home.

Two PCSOs and a constable were able to locate the occupants, and the driver was handed a Section 59 warning - meaning that if he is caught committing anti-social behaviour in the next 12 months the vehicle could be seized.

The police posted the outcome on their Facebook page but was met with anger by dozens of people who said a tougher punishment should have been dished out.

Simon Ellis wrote: "So, they attack people with explosives and get away with it? Now they will just do it on foot."

Richard Brear wrote: "How are you not arrested and sent to jail, for firing explosives, out of a car, towards people and property?"

Christine Cooper said: "Why wasn’t the vehicle impounded anyway and the occupants banged up for the night?

"These mindless excuse for human beings should be taken off the streets and their picture should be plastered everywhere so we all know who they are."

Others suggested that fireworks be banned, but some responded by asking why they should removed from sale because of a few mindless yobs.
