April Fools Day twitter blunder for West Yorkshire Police mounted section

West Yorkshire Police chiefs were left red-faced after its mounted section tweeted today - April Fools’ Day - that it was “closing down due to cutbacks”.

Bosses were forced to issue comment denying the mounted section would be closing and said inquiries were now looking into how it had come to be posted on the social network.

The offending tweet was posted just after 8am from the @WYPHorses account - which is the official twitter page for the mounted section.

It said: “Due to cut backs and several officers leaving, the mounted section is unsustainable and will close down. A very sad day.”

The post was then deleted earlier this morning. Chief Superintendant Barry South of West Yorkshire Police’s protective services operations said: “We are making enquiries as to how this has been placed on the site but we can categorically state that the mounted section will continue to deliver a specialist service to the public of West Yorkshire.”
