Bogus caller alert after man walks into Castleford house uninvited

Police said he claimed to be from an energy company before entering the house on Kendal Drive, Ferry Fryston, Castleford, at around 3pm on Friday, March 4.

He was in his 20s, had black hair and wore a navy blue fleece and what appeared to be an ID badge, but back to front.

He carried a tablet computer and claimed to be checking pre-paid meters.

A police spokeswoman said: “The man left the property when asked to and whilst no crime was committed, this was clearly very distressing for the householders.

“People are asked to be vigilant and not to allow strangers into their homes.

“Always ask to see a caller’s identification badge and contact the company they claim to work for if you need reassurance.

“If you’re not certain they are genuine once you’ve contacted the company then keep them out and contact the police.”
