Burglars jailed over raids at luxury homes

Daniel Kaye, 31, and Jonathan Cahill, 30, were handed the sentences after a court heard the pair targeted homes in wealthy areas in order to steal expensive cars and property.

The pair were involved in 17 offences during October and November last year. Many of the homes were broken into during the night as the people who lived there were asleep.

Several homes would often in be targeted in a single night. Stolen vehicles would then be offered for sale by the pair via text messages to others.

During a night time spree in Pontefract, on November 30, three years of university work belonging to a student was stolen and has never been recovered. Electrical items worth £1,000 were also stolen.

The pair then forced their way into a house on the same street, Cirrus View, and stole the keys to an £8,500 Suzuki Swift which was parked outside before driving off in it. That vehicle was later found in Dewsbury and had Kaye’s fingerprint on a CD in the glove box.

During another series of offences, in Horbury, Wakefield, they stole a £24,000 VW Golf and a Ford Focus. Homes in Sheffield, Holmfirth and Manchester were also targeted.

Kaye, of Park Street, Horbury, Wakefield, and Cahill, of no fixed address but formerly of Wakefield, both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary.
