No plea was entered to a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

And Johnson is expected to stand trial later this year.

Deputy District Judge Hayles told him: “Your case can only be dealt with in the Crown Court. I formally send your case now to the Crown Court in Leeds.”

Johnson was bailed unconditionally for a preliminary hearing in Leeds on June 30.

An inquest into the death of Ms Bolton, of Cumbrian Way, Lupset, heard the retired teacher was crossing Horbury Road, near her home, when she was in collision with a double decker bus.

She was airlifted to hospital but died two days later from head and chest injuries.
