'I will not let mum down': Daughter of Wakefield shoe fetish murder victim Wendy Speakes vows to continue fight to keep killer behind bars until the day he dies

Christopher Farrow's latest bid for freedom was rejected this week, 20 years after he was convicted of carrying out the depraved sex killing of Wendy Speakes at her home in Wakefield.

Mrs Speakes' daughter, Tracey Millington-Jones, spoke of her relief at knowing Farrow will remain in custody for two more years.

Tracey told how her battle for justice still goes on more than a quarter of a century after her mum's death.

She said: "I will continue to be strong and fight for justice for my mum and continue my campaign for Christopher Farrow to remain in prison until he dies – only then will I get closure from this living nightmare”.

Farrow, from Cookridge, Leeds, was aged 39 when he forced his way into Mrs Speakes' home on Balne Lane in Wakefield before subjecting her to a frenzied sex attack in March 1994.

The 51-year-old was tied up with a pair of stockings, forced to wear a pair of blue mule shoes before being raped and stabbed to death.

Farrow was jailed for life in 2000 over the killing but has been eligible to apply for parole during the past two years.

A Parole Board panel decided, after a hearing held last month, that Farrow is not suitable to be freed from jail or to be transferred to an open prison.

"Unfortunately, this is not closure for me or my family as a parole hearing occurs every two years now and I have to go through the torture, stress and anxiety of attending prison and reading my victim impact statement to the panel and then waiting for their decision.

"It is not an easy process to endure but I am my mother’s daughter and I will not let my mum down."

A document detailing the Parole Board's latest decision states: "The panel was not satisfied that Mr Farrow was suitable for release.

"Nor did the panel recommend to the Secretary of State that Mr Farrow should be transferred to open prison.

"Because the panel considered Mr Farrow needed to continue addressing problem areas and to develop appropriate skills, it concluded that he was appropriately located in custody where outstanding levels of risk could be addressed."

It is the second time Farrow has had a parole application rejected.

After a hearing in 2018 the Parole Board recommended Farrow be moved to an open prison in preparation for his eventual release.

The decision sparked outrage and Farrow has since been returned to a secure prison.

After that decision was made two years ago, Tracey told the YEP: "I think he is a dangerous, dangerous man.

"People need to be reminded of what he has done.

"Particularly people in Leeds and Wakefield if he is going to move back there.

"Why should he have the right to freedom after what he has done?

"He has shown no remorse - right from committing this offence in 1994 up until the day he is going to be released.

"That is the coward that he is.

"He has never said sorry."

Farrow raped Mrs Speakes after raiding her shoe drawer and placing a pair of black high heels in view because he liked "looking at shoes when having sex", his trial heard.

He also forced her to wear another pair of shoes while carrying out the attack after tying her up with tights before stabbing her 11 times until she died.

Farrow initially tried to rape a 24-year-old barmaid and followed her for several days before unsuccessfully trying to get into her home.

He then targeted Mrs Speakes, who he spoke to on the doorstep before forcing his way into her house.

A huge police investigation was launched to find Mrs Speakes' killer, with DNA tests carried out on thousands of men.

Farrow was caught after advancements in computer technology in 2000 matched fingerprints taken from him during a 1996 drink-driving arrest to those in an unsolved crimes database, while his DNA was linked to blood found at the crime scene.
