David Price denied a catalogue of offences which forced his two victims to give evidence during a trial at Leeds Crown Court, but then admitted his crimes after being found guilty.

The 40-year-old was sentenced this morning, receiving a 22-and-a-half years - 14-and-a-half of which will be spent behind bars, the remaining eight on extended licence.

The court was told that the Price, while living in the Wakefield district at the time, targeted the two young girls under the age of 13.

David Price was handed the extended sentence this morning.

He abused one over a four-month period and the other over a four-year period.

Price, now of Boulsworth Drive, Trawden in Lancashire, was charged with nine offences in total and found guilty of all of them.

The court was told of the horrendous impact the abuse had on the two females, with one suffering from suicidal thoughts, had self harmed and needed extensive counselling.

It was only when a pre-sentence report was ordered after the trial had concluded did Price admit what he had done, and that he was attracted to young girls.

The court was told that he had been in a new relationship with a woman and he feared she would end it if he admitted the charges. She eventually did terminate the relationship.

He had already been convicted of making indecent images of children in 2017 for which he was given an eight-month suspended sentence.

Mitigating for Price, Rachel Cooper told the court that he had only recently been able to admit it to himself and knew he needed to change his behaviour to prevent further offending.

He said he was "disgusted" by his own actions, but Judge Penelope Belcher said he had only stopped when he was arrested.

She condemned Price for forcing the two females to give evidence in court, calling him "totally and utterly selfish".

She said: "Your own relationship you put before the interests of these children who you systematically abused over time.

"You steadfastly denied your offending for two years."
