Man arrested over fatal crash in Wakefield

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving followuing a fatal crash in Wakefield.

Police arrested the 21-year-old Wakefield man on Friday in connection with the incident on the A650 Wrenthorpe bypass, which resulted in the death of David Thompson, 35.

After being quizzed the man was released on bail pending further enquiries.

Mr Thompson was a passenger in the BMW M3 when it veered off the road near a roundabout by the Rhubarb Triangle and hit a lamp post at about 7pm on Saturday, April 18.

Following the crash, Mr Thompson and another man were rushed to Leeds General Infirmary. However, Mr Thompson, from Tingley, died in hospital on Wednesday, May 13.

The 27-year-old driver remains in hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

Police are still urging anyone who witnessed the crash or the movements of the vehicle prior to it to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.
