Detectives have appealed for witnesses after a 63-year-old woman was mugged in Knottingley.

The woman was approached from behind as she walked along Fishergate at around 8.45pm on Sunday, March 23.

A man tried to grab her hand bag and pushed her against a wall.

After a struggle, he stole her purse - which contained cash and a sentimental photograph - and then ran off.

Det Sgt Peter Burrill, of Wakefield CID, said: “A man officers want to speak to in connection with the incident is described as white, 5’11 tall, of slim build and wearing a grey coloured hooded top with the hood up.”

Anyone with information should call Wakefield CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
