Motorist found high on cocaine FIVE times in just two months

Adam James Charnley, of Westview, Kirkhamgate, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court where he admitted 17 offences of being over the limit.

The 39-year-old was first stopped on December 29 last year on Charlesworth Way in Wakefield while behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa.

He was then stopped again on January 17, this time driving a Nissan Micra on Ings Road in Wakefield, then again just three days later on Clarendon Road in Wakefield, again in the Micra.

Police stopped him again on January 29 on Charlesworth Way, this time behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Astra.

Finally, he was pulled over on Charlesworth Way again on February 29 in a Renault Scenic.

One each occasion he was swabbed and found to have cocaine in his system over the permitted level. He also tested positive for cannabis when he was pulled over on December 29.

A charge of drink-driving, relating to him being stopped on December 27, was dismissed.

The magistrates sent him to jail for three months, saying only custody was the only option after so many offences in such a short space of time. They also said jail was required to send a message to the public about driving while over the drug limit.

He was also told to pay £122 in costs.
