Murder investigation launched after unexplained death of Normanton woman

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a woman in Normanton.

Detectives were called by the ambulance service at 7pm on Sunday night after they went to treat a woman with life threatening injuries at a house on Castleford Road, Normanton.

The woman, believed to be 41 and who lived locally, died a short time later.

Police say the death is unexplained and that a post mortem examination will be carried out later today.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Dunkerley, of West Yorkshire Police Protective Services (Crime),said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances that have led to this woman’s death.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information which could help our ongoing enquiries to call Protective Services (Crime) on 101 or give information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
