Wayman is also charged with an unrelated robbery offence said to have occurred on September 13 on Halfpenny Lane in Pontefract.

Wayman, 49, of Love Lane Terrace, Pontefract, denies both charges.

The trial could go ahead due to the decision to put all jury trials in England and Wales on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Wayman appeared before Leeds Crown Court via a video link from Armley prison for a brief hearing to fix a new date for a trial.

The trial was listed for September 7 and is expected to last eight days.

Wayman was told he will remain in custody until his trial.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said: "There is clearly good and sufficient cause to extend the custody time limit by reason of the pandemic."

West Yorkshire Police released CCTV footage of Mr Suggitt in a supermarket in an attempt to trace his movements before his death.
