The woman, who cannot be named to protect the child's identity, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court this week where she was given 14 days behind bars.

She was originally given a community order in March 2020 after admitting two counts of failing to ensure her son attended school.

The woman, who is in her 30s, then admitted breaching the community order in April of this year by failing to attend planned telephone appointments, so a new community order was put in place.

She was brought back to court this week where again she admitted failing to attend further telephone appointments.

The magistrates said only jail would suffice because she had a "flagrant disregard for community orders".
