Police confirm suspicious powder found in Wakefield is new psychoactive drug

Police were called to a premises on Thornes Lane at 12.51pm on Monday to reports that suspicious white powder was found in a package which was in transit.

Four people had to be treated after coming in to contact with the powder which police have confirmed is a new psychoactive drug.

Detective Inspector Andrew Welbourn, of Wakefield CID, said: “Police were called at 12.51pm on Monday, 6 July, to a premises in Thornes Lane, Wakefield, to a report of a suspicious substance found in a package which was in transit.

“Specially trained officers isolated the scene with four people who came in contact with the substance receiving medical attention.

“It has now been confirmed that the substance is a new psychoactive substance.”

A psychoactive drug is any chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in perception, mood, or consciousness.
