Police hunt failed robber who attacked disabled man in Dewsbury

Police have issued a witness appeal following the a”targeted attack” which happened on Railway Street at 7.35pm yesterday (Monday).

The 42-year-old victim was approached by the suspect who demanded money and was verbally abusive.

When the victim refused the demands he was then knocked to the floor with a single punch. He was then repeatedly kicked in the back whilst on the ground, before the attacker fled when disturbed by a male passers by.

Police are studying CCTV footage in the area, but have issued a description of the alleged attacker.

He is described as an Asian male, between 20 and 25-years-old, 6ft and of a muscular build. He has straight black hair and a black goatee beard. He was wearing a black t-shirt, camouflage-style combat pants and black trainers.

Detective Inspector Mark Truelove of Kirklees CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into what was an appalling incident in which a man with disabilities has been targeted, abused and then repeatedly assaulted by a male.

“Fortunately he was not seriously injured but was clearly very upset by what happened. Many residents will quite rightly be shocked by what has taken place and I would ask anyone who can identify the suspect or who has information to contact Kirklees CID on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity in confidence on 0800 555 111.”
