Police officers attacked while on duty on Saturday night

A 44-year-old officer was knocked unconcious while attending a report of a domestic incident in Eastmoor, Wakefield.
She also suffered an injury to her hand and bruising to both eye and cheeckbone.

A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail.

Later a 36-year-old female officer was injured when she attended a 999 call requesting police assistance in Featherstone.

She suffered cuts and swelling to the side of the face.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to this incident.

Wakefield Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Simon Whitehead said: “Assaults on police officers in the execution of their duty trying to protect the public are unacceptable and those people who choose to commit such acts of violence towards officers will be dealt with as the law allows.

“My staff do an amazing job in protecting communities and supporting those most vulnerable in our communities. Having spoken to both officers, they are both keen to continue to working with our communities as soon as they can. To me this attitude is what makes policing in West Yorkshire first class and I continue to be incredibly proud of my staff and the work they do, despite the risks that they take and on occasion the injuries that they sustain.”
