Police rush to reports of armed robbery on cash van in Wakefield town

Armed robbers attacked a van transporting cash in a Wakefield town this morning.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they were called at 7.35am to reports of an ongoing armed robbery of a can transporting cash.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene of the attack on Pontefract Road, Knottingley.

The suspects fled empty handed, but officers recovered a white Kia Carens which will now be sent for further tests.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Enquiries are ongoing by Wakefield District CID, who are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the Kia in the area prior to the incident.
