Voters will go to the polls for the general and local elections on Thursday, May 7.

Wakefield Council will write to each household in the district to remind people that anyone over the age of 16 who is not listed by Monday, April 20 will not be able to vote.

Electoral changes mean individuals now need to register to vote rather than each household.

People who have not registered by April 20 will not be able to vote in either the local or General Election.

There are three seats across the district in the General Election - one for Wakefield, one for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford and one for Hemsworth.

On the same day, one seat in each of Wakefield Council’s 21 wards - a third of the council - will also be up for election.
