'˜Drive-thru' restaurant and a new supermarket planned at City Fields

Applications for the latest phases of the City Fields development, which also includes building 171 homes, will go before Wakefield Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.

Land at Heathlands, off Doncaster Road and near to the new Wakefield Eastern Relief Road (WERR), has been earmarked for the restuarant, supermarket and another five small units.

There could also be up to 80 parking spaces included.

A number of objections have been raised from residents living south west of the site who raised pints about access and disruption.

Although there has been no confirmation of the type of restaurant to move in, the council’s report says it could ‘potentially sell fast food’.

The application has been recommended for approval.

Meanwhile, the next housing phase at City Fields will also be determined.

The site is split into two, first the northern end of the site, bordering onto the southern end of Stanley, and secondly next to the new WERR roundabout.

If approved, the housing will be a mix of two , three and four-bed detached,

semi-detached and terraced dwellings that are predominantly two storeys in height.

There will also be three bungalows built. Off-street parking would be included.
