Driver taken to hospital with serious injuries after crash on major Wakefield road

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision on a major Wakefield road.

West Yorkshire Police were called at 10.33am today to reports of a collision on Doncaster Road, Crofton, close to the Redbeck bridge.

The incident involved a white Citroen and a parked vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a man, became trapped, and fire and ambulance crews were called.

He was later extracted from the vehicle and taken to Leeds General Infirmary with injuries which are believed to be serious but not life threatening.

Photos from the scene show several emergency vehicles at a closed road, next to the railway bridge.

Heavy traffic has been reported in the area, but it is understood that the road has now reopened.
