Drug dealer jailed over £11,000 heroin and crack cocaine haul

Jamie Hirst, 37, reversed his car into a police vehicle after officers signalled for him to stop when they saw him driving in Wakefield on January 5 this year.

Leeds Crown Court heard officers recognised Hirst’s Ford Ka as being connected with drug dealing. The officers managed to smash the window of Hirst’s vehicle in order to arrest him. He was later found to be over the drink-drive limit.

Two large quantities of heroin were found inside the car. Hirst was found to be in possession of over £1,000 in cash.

Hirst’s home was then searched and further large amounts of heroin and crack cocaine were found along with more cash.

Hirst’s phone was seized and found to contain messages linking him to drug supply.

Syam Soni, prosecuting, said the total value of the drugs and cash seized was £11,148.

Hirst, of Newstead Terrace, Fitzwilliam, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply, drink driving and having no insurance.

Marcus Waite, prosecuting, said: “He is remorseful and understands that he is going to have to serve a custodial sentence.”

Jailing Hirst, judge Tom Bayliss, QC, said: “Whatever led you to get in to this terrible trade, you were clearly motivated by financial advantage and you plainly had an understanding and awareness of what was clearly a large scale operation.”
