Nine-year-old Edward Rigg will join his father Chris, who will be dressed as sidekick Robin, as they cycle 40 miles around Pugneys Country Park on Saturday, September 5.

The caped crusaders decided to take on the challenge after Edward’s sister Ella was diagnosed with neuroblastoma – a rare and aggressive childhood cancer – in 2013.

Her brother will attempt to catch his auntie Jacqui Smithson, who will be cycling round the park dressed as Catwoman.

Edward said: “My little sister Ella is battling cancer. My mum and dad say we are superheroes and while Ella has been fighting cancer I’ve been fighting villains.

“I’m doing this to raise money for Candlelighters who help look after children going through similar battles to Ella.”

Candlelighters, based in Leeds, provides support to children with cancer.

Dad Chris said: “Edward’s been a brilliant big brother to Ella especially through all her treatment.

“He has seen first hand what Candlelighters do for all the children and wanted to do something to help.

“We are both really proud of Edward and Ella, they are both our little superheroes.”
